With the health of our troops and of our nation at risk, Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) made a House Call in Washington, DC. We are demanding action from our elected representatives and calling on them to bring our troops home now. We stood outside their offices in Washington, DC and called on them to stop playing politics with the lives of our loved ones and the loved ones of others - to Bring Our Troops Home Now and Take Care of Them When They Get Here. We stood with combat boots representing US troops and shoes representing Iraqis who have died since June 15, 2006 - the day Congress voted to "stay the course" in Iraq and the day the 2,500th troop death occured.

As Congress goes on recess for August, military families will continue to pressure their Senators and Representatives back in their home states and districts.

It Is All About Your Record An Open Letter to Congresswoman Melissa Bean On August 27, members of MFSO-Chicago who reside in the 8th District and other peace activists, also from the district, tried to pay the Congresswoman a House Call at a local Democratic rally and picnic. Rather than fulfilling her announced speaking obligation…and perhaps answering our concerns, the Congresswoman chose to cancel her appearance save for a brief stop at the event location prior to its scheduled start time. This is not the first time she has refused to meet with Military Families concerned with loved ones who are serving in increasingly dangerous conditions. She cites a “busy .. <more>
Anti-war protests come to congressman's lawn
About 35 members of Military Families Speak Out face off with Rep. Rohrabacher at his house in Huntington Beach.
About 35 people, carrying anti-war signs, walked down the quiet street and knocked on the congressman's door. Surfing gear and a couple of children's strollers were on the porch. A window fan was working. But no one answered. The activists from Military Families Speak Out, three of them with sons serving in Iraq, went to a nearby park. <more>

Families Protest Deployment Of NJ's National Guard NEWARK (CBS) ― Half of New Jersey's National Guard troops are preparing to deploy to Iraq in a few months. But a small army hit the streets of Newark to try to keep them home on Monday, with protest leaders insisting the Garden State's governor reconsider. Paula Rogovin is one of the mothers circulating a petition asking Governor Corzine not to send 3,000 New Jersey troops to Iraq in June. Her son just returned from the war-ravaged region, and her efforts are now directed at preventing other mothers from going through what she's already experienced. <more>

Speech at Press Conference Closing the First Phase of Operation House Call
Outside the Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, DC
My name is Elizabeth Frederick. I'm a co-founder of the Washington, Dc Metro Area chapter of Military Families Speak Out. We are an organization of over 3,000 military families nationwide who are speaking out to end the war in Iraq. Our message is simple, bring our troops home now and take care of them when they get here. We are the largest organization of military families speaking out against a war in the history of the United States. <more>
Week Six, Day Three The meeting was especially powerful since Gilda, a new Gold Star mother, brought pictures of her son. She looked at this staffer and said, "This is a picture from his wedding last May, and this is the program from his funeral this May. Let's not fool ourselves by saying he died protecting me. That's not what he was there doing. He shouldn't have been there and the leaders of this country failed him." <more>

An Open Letter to Congress: People ask me every day "So is your husband home safe?" I usually reply "Yeah, he got home from Iraq several months ago.” What I really want to say and what's usually going through my head at that very moment is, "NO, HE IS NOT SAFE. HE IS NOT OKAY AND HE ISN"T EVEN THE SAME PERSON." <more>
Another Sleepless Night I am living in a nightmare. Is all this pain and destruction ever going to end? I am hearing all these other stories of pain and devastation of families. The knot that lives inside my stomach since the war began is growing. <more>
